June, month of fun in Wauconda

Wauconda Fest starts the 21st with one of our favorite bands playing, Modern Day Romeo's. Local favorite Kevin Purcell and the Nightburners gets Friday night off in the right direction. Check the Park District website listed on the home page of blog for all the events, times, costs, etc. A good time.
We stopped in at Middleton's on Main after the Memorial Day parade to take a quick peek - an amazing transformation - nothing like elbow grease, painting and new or refinished floors to bring in the crowds once they're officially open. The menu offers a huge variety of great sounding dishes.
Was surprised to read in the 5/30 Daily Herald that the Wauconda full-time police officer staffing cost, per resident, ranks the 16th highest out of 68 communities surveyed. Towns more costlier, for example, are Gurnee, Hoffman Estates, Elk Grove, Libertyville, Oak Brook and some ranking well below us are Naperville, Mundelein, Schaumburg, Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect. Wonder why our WPD spending per resident is $165.07 to Lake Zurich's $150.75, Mundelein's $132.22, Naperville's $104.85. Any areas we could decrease this high ranking?
Free Thursday evening concerts are being co-hosted by the Park District and Library started June 7th at the Park. Check their respective websites to get schedule of performers!

May, month of graduations, proms, parties

Spring cleaning can include a trip to the Township Hall on Bonner Road to get all your old financial and personal records shredded. This great, convenient service is offered on Saturday, May 5th, from 9 - noon. Rumor is our newest restaurant, Middleton's on Main (old Lakeside Inn) is hoping to open by Memorial Day. If you're going to visit the new Hookah Lounge Inhale, do it during the week as smokes only cost five bucks compared with thirteen on weekends. Does the owner plan on buying the building or closing shop if a buyer comes along? Remember the village brush pick-up the week of May 21st. Drive safely, sober and intentional....watch for bikers.

March madness, move clocks forward and leprechaun leapings

Boy, hard to believe Daylight Savings starts on the 10th. Early voting at the Township Hall continues through the 15th so do everyone a favor and make time to vote in the primary election. There are many running for various judicial, county board, coroner and state rep positions to face off with an opponent in November so don't take this current election lightly. Wauconda Boat is sponsoring their second annual Leprechaun Leaping event from 2 - 6pm on Saturday, March 17th. Sounds like a fun family event and a good way to get primed for St. Paddy's night!
We are blessed with our second "cash for gold" shop at the old bank bldg on Rt. 12 and Bonner Road. Business must be booming in our area for them to open a second store.

february - the month for lovers and early voters

Think any of our local watering holes will have candidate drink specials between now and the March primary? Like a wine, Sauer Grapes? Or a spiced martini, Slick n Quick? A mini Irish whiskey, Teeny Weeney McSweeney? A fisherman special ale, Rowe 'da Boat? A cold night saviour, Winter warmer? Early voting starts at the Township building on 2/27 and runs through 3/15.
Looks like bloggers Marty and Mark Beeson want to hold a gathering of some sort based on posts made here recently. That'd be great if there were an interest....like the days of the old salons where deep discussions ensued on topical matters. In those days salons were typically hosted by the mistress of a local leader - ah, the days of yesteryear when having a mistress wasn't out of the norm and therefor didn't require hiding out. Getting back to Marty and Mark's idea...their kickoff could feature Bacardi spririts as I read that company was founded 150 yrs ago on 2/4/1862!
